A DSG transmission is a sophisticated piece of engineering that requires regular oil changes. VW's direct shift gearbox (DSG) is a 6 speed dual clutch manual-like transmission that automatically shifts. It has internals similar to a manual transmission with a "brain/valve body" called mechatronics which shifts it. If the gearbox oil is dirty it will cause premature wear to DSG internal parts and affect the performance.
Dirty oil can overheat the gearbox or cause the clutches to burn out. This will lead to poor gear selection, loss of power and transmission failure. The DSG transmission requires a fluid and filter change every 40,000 miles. The internal clutches and mechatronics are also lubricated by the fluid. Smoother shifting can be felt after a DSG oil change. S-tronic is Audi's name for the same transmission.
Benefits of DSG Service
1. Extends the life of the transmission and prevents costly repairs
2. Improves your car's performance
3. Keeps your warranty valid for repairs related to the transmission
